There's no afterlife because "after" and "life" are both illusory concepts. There is a flow to all things and our degree of alignment with it. You may as well ask if the ripples in a lake are gone when the water is still; they are a pattern in a borrowed material, and return that material when their time is up, but they aren't "gone". The water is there.
