Chinese seethe at this game because the plot is a hidden allegory about Taiwan and Covid 19.

>>712429097My best example of how absolutely asshurt the CCP is when it comes to video games is Battlefield 4
The campaign story in that game is some military general overthrowing the chinese government (=CCP), america then allying with the CCP to reclaim china. And they banned the game lmfao
>>712429241In china ghosts are banned because it implies a power above CCP control. It's literally official law that people aren't allowed to reincarnate without ccp approval. The government is insanely sensitive

I just escaped the prison, and while the game's very fun so far, the combat balance seems weird. By now, I've gotten the hang of the game well enough that a single enemy is almost never a particularly difficult challenge. Sure I'm not beating bosses and minibosses first try, but it doesn't take very long to learn their attack patterns. Xingtian took me like three tries I think. Yanlao's bossfight took me a dozen attempts and that's only because during the second phase, when there's a billion lasers firing from the ceiling, if I got hit once I kept getting stunlocked and the lasers and the claw attacks 3-shot you or so; once I got more careful to avoid the stunlock instakill the rest of the fight was easy. And the minibosses I've fought in the meantime have again taken me a few tries each but they're vastly easier for me now than the initial few minibosses, even though they're visibly getting faster and with more varied attack patterns - parrying is just not that complicated.
On the other hand facing multiple enemies at once is absolute HELL. The Kanghui fight was the most difficult part of the game so far bar none, and I felt like I was making no progress on every attempt. When I finally beat him it felt like pure luck that I had just managed to survive and somehow deal enough damage to end the bossfight while just frantically trying not to get mobbed and instakilled by the big prison guard, the constant flies shooting at me and the dogs running around everywhere.
I don't know if you unlock better crowd control options in the future, and if individual bosses and minibosses actually become more challenging without just spamming adds. Or am I playing the game wrong and having a skill issue? But right now the balance seems weirdly lopsided where whether a fight is easy or hard is purely dictated by how many enemies are on screen around me.
I think i took over 100tries for Eigong

>>712464109>>712464721>>712454195Oh, the poor hound looking bastard? That's weird, I seemed to have had enough overall damage to simply clear the battlefield fast enough to not be overwhelmed. I'm not sure if my tao fruits made THAT much of a difference.
>>712464721>>712464862Yeah the prison boss who's chained up and spits out blobs of flesh that spawn into enemies.
Clearing out the battlefield was easy in the first phase but the prison guardian gave me a ton of trouble. They have a shitton of health and attack pretty fast, so on their own they're not difficult but do require focus, but then while you're trying to hit him kanghui will do the thing where he spits out four flies at once so now you're getting absolutely raped by the flying needles they launch at you. They have almost no health but the warden guy has insane movement and the boomerang shield attack so if you try to go after the flies you still gotta be focused on the warden to block his attacks, AND also blocking the flying needles because they keep fucking spitting them.
And then you let it get slightly out of control and kanghui will spit out a dog or two, and those again are usually absolutely trivial but while you're juggling everything else now it's an extra thing that can just bite you from behind and interrupt, say, an attempt to parry the warden, so you get hit by the big ass sword for a third of your health, get knocked down, kanghui just keeps spitting out flies so now there's eight of them flying around and you get hit by five or six needles, and while you're stunlocked the warden throws his shield at you and you die. It's SO easy for everything to get out of control, and so hard to do intelligent things like effectively blocking shit from the 6+ enemies on screen to actually build up Qi, or blowing your talisman on the correct enemy or blowing it at all without getting flinched by an attack, etc.
Maybe I should've gone water flow instead of full control or something.
>kanghui
Just charge attack. Kills all the little dudes in one hit. Maybe not the dogs I can't really remember but it fucks up the flying shitters. Super easy crowd control and then the rest of the fight's a cinch.

I don't reckon you already have access to upgraded talismans but if you do - my personal recommendation is just the upgraded version of basic Qi Blast. Those arrows are no joke, man. Full Control at 5 pips will usually just make you tank hits trying to pull it off, and Water Flow... Well I just think with the amount of time you're spending slapping talismans you might end up losing too much DPS uptime and failure-spiraling due to prolonged fights.
With the bow there are some sweet-ass arrows available to you, and the default cloud piercer is very solid because it interrupts most attacks, staggers even bosses for a short time (which often gives you a window to slap the talisman and refund the arrow right away) and deals reasonable damage, though not the best. The bow is probably one of the main reasons I survived the final boss.
>>712467129Any time you get a game telling you to play it on a controlled - just come up with a keybind scheme that includes your mouse, like Nine Sols, and you'll find that you can play any controller game like a god by just including your mouse buttons. Hollow Knight also becomes a lot less ass to play when you just bind attack to left click and structure the rest around it.
>>712467224Yeah maybe I just went about it wrong. Full control is really geared for one-on-one fights so I probably should've swapped it out, I don't know why I was so stubborn at just keeping the same shit.
I was using the thunder explosive bow, I'm not sure if that was better or worse than the piercing one.
I haven't beelined the upgraded basic talisman yet because water flow just seems easier and full control gives a lot more damage, and I also tend to forget about my bow because it's got limited arrows, and now that you've pointed out both of these fix each other so I really should try them out.

>>712467567What makes or breaks a game on keyboard is always the movement. Hollow Knight's movement just feels wrong on WASD, I don't know what it is about it but when I first tried the game I struggled so much even on the first location, then a while later I decided to try it on the deck and suddenly the starting area was actually about as easy as you'd expect a starting area to be and I could focus on fighting enemies rather than just trying to navigate the terrain like a paraplegic. That's not something rebinding stuff to the mouse can fix.
Same shit with most 3D souls games. They're built for console first, so the third-person movement is tuned for controller, and it ends up feeling like absolute ass on keyboard. I've tried several souls games, old and new, even sekiro, and each time I got filtered not because the combat is hard but rather because my guy is moving in the wrong fucking direction and attacking in the wrong direction and dodging in the wrong direction and it feels like I'm fighting the game's control scheme rather than actually engaging with the combat and enemies. Each one of those just felt infinitely better when I tried them on the deck, but there having a right stick replacing the mouse feels unplayable to me for the camera movement - now the character movement is fine but the camera is always fucking wrong and the only way to move it is sloooowly rotating it with a joystick. But that's an issue with 3D games, HK was fine on the deck. Anyway, my point being none of that is related to the button bindings, it's about how WASD input is handled in the game.
9S works perfectly on WASD and I couldn't be happier.
That said since you mentioned rebinding, I did change one thing and that was putting the talisman on middle click on the mouse. That was absolutely necessary but it's also the only change I ever did. Rest of the control scheme is perfectly fine.
>>712467680The choice between the electric bomb and the cloud piercer depends on the encounter, but cloud piercer is the most versatile of them all. Electric bomb doesn't stagger and requires the victim to stay within its radius, plus it only affects a small area compared to Cloud Piercer just raping an entire strip of space in front of you (you shoot a needler with the electrobomb - basically only that needler will get damaged by the electroblast. But if you cloudpierce it - everything behind it is capital F Fucked as well), meanwhile the Sha- wait no, you haven't gotten that one yet, no spoilers.
But yeah, upgrading Cloud Piercer is a risk-free endeavor and Upgraded Qi maintains respectable damage while making your bow essentially a "cooldown" based skill thus sustainable thus actually useful instead of getting hoarded for the entire game and never once fired because "Well I'm fighting the final stage of the final boss already but what if there is a finaler stage of a finaler boss right around the corner and I wasted all my arrows? D:".
And once you get used to actually employing the bow actively - you'll likely appreciate the combat a lot more.
>>712419580 (OP)Nine Sols is kino, it's easily a 9/10 and made me cry a little at the end.

>>712468221Dunno, HK felt right and proper for me when I made a WASD+mouse scheme.
As far as 9S goes, same but I bound the talisman to one of the side buttons on my mouse because in order to pop a tali with a mousewheel I'd need to let go of either attack or parry and that's a big no-no. Thumb is free.
>>712468229Got it. Thanks anon, I'll definitely grab the upgraded basic talisman and try using my bow more.
Doesn't the thunderbomb bow affect an AOE, though? I shoot a warden and all the needlers in his general vicinity and dogs nearby seem to get fucked. Or maybe not, I didn't have a lot of time to carefully look at what was going on. I did consider switching back to the cloud piercer but I assumed it would just miss all the flying enemies, or force me to aim it JUST right to hit most of them (and maybe miss the guardian in the process).
I know it's a skill issue on my part but I wish they gave some more obvious way to recharge your bow, rather than a skill at the very bottom of the skill tree and no tips or indications anywhere encouraging you to take it. Cause if you don't use it, the bow is very much a consumable that you pretty much never use except for bosses, and in my case when I do get a boss I tend to forget it exists since I haven't been using it for 99% of the game.

>HKMaybe I just had a skill issue, honestly.
>>712468102Weird thing ain't it.
>>712468685>Doesn't the thunderbomb bow affect an AOE, though? It is. But consider the following: The AoE pops at the place where the arrow hits. Thus, unless all the enemies are clustered in that one spot, which they're usually not since they tend to spread out around the arena, it'll be wasted. Cloud Piercer covers like a quarter of the screen instead of a wee circle.
>I shoot a warden and all the needlers in his general vicinity and dogs nearby seem to get fuckedThat's why I'm saying it depends on the encounter. If they're bunched together and aren't hyperactive enough to get the fuck out of the circle (there is funny footage of a guy exploiting a bug that makes thunderbomb deal damage while you're in the menu, and the reason he used it was because Jiequan would just fuck off from the blast radius before the bomb finishes, losing DPS) then it's fine. But then what if the two needlers are in different corners of the screen? Or if a dog runs away and ends up behind you? With a CP shot you could just hug one of the sides of the screen and shoot across the entire arena to clip most of them.
>I know it's a skill issue on my part but I wish they gave some more obvious way to recharge your bow, rather than a skill at the very bottom of the skill tree and no tips or indications anywhere encouraging you to take it. It's the Qi Blast that makes it viable for duelling.
But ye, you're right about the other thing. This is like one of the most common game design sins in the industry - making limited use "oh shit!" consumables that the player constantly neglects in an attempt to stay frugal. Very few people get the issue with it.

It does make it annoying to use the talisman but also most mooks don't actually need you to use the talisman. I guess the arrows could be useful? >Weapon swapping usually isn't something one has to do in a split secondTrue, I just like having a bunch of stuff on my middle mouse button. Bottom line is sometimes there are small crowds where cloud piercer turns a 30s parry sequence into a 1.5s draw of a bow string.
>I didn't have much trouble kiting them around with the dash, charge-striking them and taking them out one by oneSee, but you had to spend time with that entire song and dance while I just pressed a single button and now 3 mooks ceased to exist.
If your point is that the bow isn't essential, then... Well, you're right actually. But I was agreeing with you in that regard. The problem is you have a very useful but non-essential limited consumable and that just makes most players not use it at all, which is a failure on the developer's part to understand the player's mindset.
>There was that one big in the warehouse where a trillion enemies flood out of a background doorway and I did use a couple of arrows there. Almost sounds like a question from someone who doesn't play fps
>>712474550Yeah fair point about the bow. It just makes things faster and easier.
I just don't think it's necessarily a good thing - I enjoy the combat and 9S is supposed to be a challenging game. If the bow can turn a 10-second encounter with dodging and careful movement into a single button press, it's not necessarily a fun mechanic. And so my overall point is that they didn't balance things around requiring the bow at all. It's not that it's "not required", it's that without the bow things aren't too hard, but with the bow it quickly becomes too easy.
In contrast to e.g. Kanghui or even Goumang for that matter, where the bow is indeed extremely useful - if you remember to use it lmao.
>Game's fault for making that encounter beatable by an average player, because as far as we're concerned - that's just a slightly weird difficulty spike rather than a legitimate "come back later" roadblock.I don't necessarily think it's intended to be a roadblock. Just indeed a very hard fight. And the hackable robot gives you a way to absolutely fuck up all the enemies once you do find it, which is a very nice feeling especially if you accidentally triggered the first room.
On the other hand the robot is then part of a cutscene with Yanlao later so you're definitely meant to find it, so maybe you're right after all, but I do think that's an issue with using it in the cutscene more than an issue with the encounter. Being able to fight through it yourself is just a nice feature - give skilled or persistent players a way forward rather than railroading them into finding the "win this encounter" mcguffin.
