If Yoshi P cared about the integrity of this setting he would do everything to at least make sure anything more "modern' in style would at least look fantastical in some way to fit the setting instead of just inserting literal generic real-world modern clothing and cellphones and shit into the game. Imagine if LOTRO had modern glams, or car mounts, etc. Players would fucking RIOT.

And yet XIV players don't care at all that it's happened to their game. Amazing.

Director is checked out (has been for years) and despite releasing "new" content consistently the game is incredibly stale and safe in everything it does
Soul is getting siphoned every patch and shows no signs of slowing down despite the occasional "oops yeah maybe we went too far maybe look forward to next time I dunno lol"
FFXI gets more varied updates still today, even if they're a year+ apart
