I definitely figured it was either the KoG or other FSS buster-launcher MH that was your inspo, definitely shows. The shield itself really conjures the LED Mirage, and the whole thing a bit LED Mirage with flame unit. With that in mind I think it'd work better as just being a shield for X-0 itself rather than incorporated on the gun.
Spitballing some ideas, but maybe it'd be cool as something like a basket-hilt style guard on the cannon? Basically just drilling a barrel-sized hole in the center of the shield and sliding it down. It would be very practical, defending in the direction of shooting by default. Alternatively, mounting it to the opposite arm/shoulder in an F90 Guard type/Imperial Rig Contio style could be cool. Final idea that comes to mind is using it as a prop, Ground-gundam and GM Sniper II style, for the cannon to rest on.
