I don't really have to justify my opinion, but I'll take the bait. I train, hike, and hunt with my primary rifle. I've had it in every configuration from no attachments with an Aimpoint only, to a full "DMR-eqsue" setup with LPVO, Bipod, backup irons, etc. Once I got off the flat range and actually started using my rifle on more than paper targets it was clear that Red Dots aren't great in low visibility situations with some kind of distance to them (i.e. basically anywhere in the woods) and LPVO's are too heavy and fragile when hardcore rucking over longer distances and adverse conditions. Acog solves both of those issues. It doesn't need batteries to offer illumination, and it is basically as (if not more) durable than iron sights. Once you're comfortable with the BDC (even when using at close ranges) there's not much reason to ever use anything else.
