That's just a meme.
Mine cost $2500 but lasted a decade before the battery turned into a bomb and the keyboard started going out despite being used several hours almost every day.
People who can afford that (professionals) can afford to "upgrade" every few years.

The lines that came out a few years after mine were a bit shittier (when they removed all the ports and added the touch bar).
Apple has its good and bad years.
But planned obsolescence was never as much of an issue as Apple making dumbass decisions.
