It was just neoclassical architecture and construction that became easy to do after the industrial revolution. Those buildings aren't 1000's of years old. They were built during the colonial era when Europeans were squatting in every country in the world and wanted to mark those territories with their culture by spraying these buildings onto them. We have a couple of them even in India.
