Depends on the editions. In 10th outside of 5 sitting on their ass on an objective there isn't much use for them.
Now the acolyte with hand flamer those are golden they can shoot, charge, hold objective, do actions, etc.
Also no one can tell metamorphs from acolytes so people usually use them interchangeably
GW can't tell the difference between a shotgun and a rifle either
