The idea that people are paying for "licences" that are somehow different from licences with physical media has been one of the worst aspects of the digital age and I'm glad that this finally getting addressed in a vector that even normalfags can understand.

How come game devs were able to release server hosting functionality 20 years ago and not now? Oh right, it's because they still can but the prospect of competing with their own products terrifies them so they shut them down to funnel the playerbase into the new product.
