Heracross in Crystal. Lack of halfway decent stab moves early on felt awful so it was relegated to HM slave. Strength coming off of base 125 attack is serviceable, but it makes me feel like I was better off using a Machop

I found Wigglytuff to be pretty good in the early game. Evolves really early and you can immediately teach it Mega Punch/Kick. Unfortunately it falls off fast after Surge. Being a Normal type that can learn Shadow Ball matches well against half of Agatha's team, but that's about it for the latter half of Kanto. Its saving grace is access to Sing and both Light Screen and Reflect to offer team utility. But one could argue you could just use Clefable instead for all of the reasons above. Still love the little critter regardless.
