I approve of the way she actually looks somewhat dorky, even if I likely won't watch it because the characters in these things are boring as fuck. I would like it better if she looked genuinely freaky like Shinozak Rei's Tatsumi.

This is sadly true in my experience. I love the *idea* of a shy somewhat dumpy girl who you can get to warm up onto a loyal woman, but the girl who was actually like this and liked me in high school was pretty much exactly like you're saying, she barely had a personality and didn't seem to be genuinely interested in anything, so it didn't work out between us.

The "fat girls with great personalty" also do exist, but they're generally horrendously ugly and come to be like they are because of that.
