The article sees a cultural reason, edgy boy content getting more acceptable on the civilian internet, as the reason 4chan as a content mill declined. That's almost completely wrong and I think if he had his face rubbed in 4chan's actual edgy (from the newfag /b/ era) content he'd probably start literally crying. It simply isn't on twitter, not even on the propaganda mills for the Ukraine/Russia war with their offsite links to kill cams.
The reason 4chan stopped being a font of creativity is really just mechanical. The catalog and auto-replies.

Once 4chan stopped being a zero sum game to capture eyeballs on page 0. The fight to bump "good" content to page 0 and bad content off page 15. That's when 4chan fundamentally stopped being competitive in its original sense. The game changed and game theory changed around it. Now 4chan organizes itself into perma-bumped dogshit generals and people pick and choose things they're already into to engage with. 4chan as an aggregator of original content is dead.
