People get Batman. Some people get Superman. Most do not get Wonder Woman. It is that simple. I remember Bruce Timm talking about the difficulty he had doing a Superman animated series (pic related). I just think Wonder Woman has this issue but to the extreme.

The truth is comics were disposable entertainment and most characters are all over the place in terms of characterisation besides a slim few. And even those characters that may have more consistent characterisation or popular stories/villains have plenty of "all over the place" stories when you look at the totality of their comics.
