I got a bottle of D&G Velvet Wood. Surprisingly it starts with a citrus blast that is not listed on the notes. It doesn't last long before it opens into a spicy and realistic wood scent. The benzoin and leather notes make it very elegant and opulent but it keeps a zesty note throughout. Unfortunately it smells exactly like the home fragrance of a rich family I knew. I'm going to wait until fall and see if by wearing it a couple of times I can disassociate the smell, otherwise I wont be able to keep wearing it. Rodrigo is also the perfumer for Arquiste and that is exactly the same profile I got when I tested a couple of their perfumes at a store. They all smell very expensive and high quality but not as wearable because they seem very specific to the lifestyles of the rich. Velvet Wood has a a few contradictions, it's spicy but smooth, it is familiar but also exotic, and it's woody but also light. It doesn't project much but it's quite linear and seems like it would last quite a bit but nothing excessive. Would be nice for a vacation scent, for a place or experience you would want to imprint with a perfume. For people who don't have the home fragrance connection that I do it might smell like the aroma of heavy dark wood furniture, leather bags, on a patio with a citrus plant.

tldr: woody and airy home fragrance for rich people
