It seems like shadow crystals don't just tell you "You are an object and there is a world above" It really seems like it gives the holder eldritch meta knowledge that they're inside of a game, that or become knowledgeable of the full prophecy/see into the future. We are still unsure how to "use" them correctly based on Gersons wording
I can only imagine how strong Berdly, the gamer, would be if he knew his entire world was a turn-based rpg
