Unironically he thought it was genius that Jar Jar was the anti-Yoda (it's sort of like pottery, it rhymes): silly-looking creature is actually a Jedi/Sith lord.
I know it's kind of a reddit theory but if you watch episode 1 knowing that he might be a sith lord, a lot of scenes make more sense.
He was probably replaced with Dooku when fans hated him.
