Pseudo-religious body horror extraterrestrial/dimensional beings intent on assimilating worlds into their collective were boring and old hat for decades before The Next Generation put a single Borg on screen.

WOTC is desperate for an iconic villain tribe but they're so bereft of talent and creativity all they can ever think of is Cthulhu/Borg/Zerg copy pastas. At least Marvelslop understood you have to build up to one singular big bad meanie and give them at least a plausible reason for villain besides DEY WANNA TAKE UR FREEDUMBS. Imagine if the MCU had 3 different Thanos types and they were present in every single movie and the heroes kept handily beating them and besides some chump villain who got treated with way more panic than they deserved every other capeshit film was about beating Thanos guy A/B/C until suddenly one day were supposed to believe Thanos C is extra super duper scary and competent this time for reals and this will be a big showdown except lol it's not and the heroes go play detective and go kart race the next couple of movies.
