Uhhh, technically is almost the same process as the PC version, but with some changes in the emulator, so don't worry.

1. First you need to download some things:

Srry, but there's no iPhone version, only on Android... For now

Extract the game and open the emulator app.

2. In melonDS, tap in the 3 dot symbol > "Settings" > "ROMs", then in "Seach directory" find the folder with the game; usually, if you only downloaded, should be on /storage/Download/, don't forget to save.

Go back on Settings, and we have to change some options to improve your game (is not necessary follow this)...

In "Video", "Renderer" leave it in Software, OpenGL improves graphics but it's for more powerful phones. Activate "Threaded rendering" if you have a potato, "Filter" I recommend see what is better for u, but if don't, put in None.
In Audio, "Interpolation" put Cubic.
In Input, lets you config your controllers.

Now THIS is important, in "System" tab > "Internal firmware settings", like PC customize as you like, and let English language as default. Don't touch anything from "MAC address".
Activate "Enable JIT" if your potato can't run the game very well.
