And you've decided that no planning is involved whatsoever just because a job can be utilized immediately. Planning and prep time is any amount of time you spend preparing for the next challenge, however much or little there is. Adding grind onto that time does not add depth. It just wastes your time.

There is strategy and build in V's job system. You pick your setup, you decide ahead of time how you're going to approach the boss, and believe it or not even your equipment matters greatly beyond just the best defensive stats, so you have to keep that in mind, too. And it's all flexible. You don't have to spend months grinding up a single job just to make it usable. Or grinding up weapon skill levels, for that matter.

I've played FFXI, enjoyed it, even, but it just lacks the flexibility of a good job system. It's better than XIV's at least. Might even say it's about as good as you'll get through an MMO format, but it still doesn't beat V's.
