i'll also add that the dualshock makes absolute perfect sense for the purposes of its sticks, one used at a time and not both at once, something xbox and nintendo would both later cotton on with putting the left stick first forward but the right stick is still lower for ancillary functions. dualshock is an amazing design for supporting both 3D and 2D games, both the d-pad and left stick are natural resting positions for the left thumb
