as a principled leaf hater and strip mall enjoyer, i must inform you that you don't seem to understand how the american real estate system works, so i will explain it to you. in america all privately owned land except for religious land is subject to property taxes. property taxes raise revenue for local governments, which is preferable to the centralized federal government. property taxes are a penalty that motivate active land use or sale of the land to someone else who will use it. without property taxes large corporations would face no penalty for acquiring vast swaths of land and letting them sit unused. it's sad how typical it is for indian canadians like yourself to worship at the altar of centralized federal government. you might as well join the communist party if you hate private property so much
