Sonic lives by his own *feelings*, he doesn't set rules. I don't think he's a moral relativist or rebellious in a Biblical sense though. He's not making up selfish rules, he's following an inner moral compass, one that consistently leads him to do what's right and just. He's close to the Christian idea of living by a Spirit-led conscience (Galatians 5:16). He doesn't set himself above good and evil, he's setting up good and evil above what the world considers right and wrong, because he appeals to a higher moral standard and he's choosing to walk in righteousness. He doesn't follow rules out of obligation, he'll follow or break the rules or the world at his discretion, but he'll never ignore his own feelings. That's very Christian, and I doubt any of that is intentional, but it is unironically true about his character.
