Yeah, you're exactly right, thank you for understanding. Unfortunately/fortunately fictional characters just don't age along with you. It's kind of difficult to deal with sometimes. You start getting called a creepy pedophile groomer for staying loyal to the same character for 10 years, but by that point the character is too important to you and your heart to drop them.
Probably even worse for men who fell for Amy or one of those Pokemon girls.
