The budget for this game had to have been very high for Yoshida to brag about SE even approving it. High enough that those initial three million sales weren't enough to stop the operating income from that quarter from dipping to nearly zero after the cost of the game had been written off. This is fine as long as the game continues selling. The problem is that the game did not continue selling. It didn't have some massive "OMG THIS GAME IS SO GOOD" word of mouth push like E33 did, despite the fact that those big eikonic clashes were pretty much made to be shared around and go viral. They never did. The game died after that first week, so in the short-term it was in line with expectations, but in the long-term it was a flop.
