>culture of hyper-individualism
Doesn't exist, the value placed on individualism stems from Christian thoughts on the immortal soul and the implied personal relationship everyone has with God. This was an under current that went contrary to the overall conformity of societies from tribal, feudal, etc. in to the modern era. European socities may pay more lip service to the idea of individualism, but at heart they are unfeeling conformist machines that tend towards autocracy/oligarchy , large organised violence, and reduction of the individual to either an economic unit or expendable military materiel. It's why their systems have overrun the world.
