Absolutely insane that they would choose to hand over $400bn a year rather than try to build a competitor. This has surely never happened before in the history of market economies.
Equivalent to something like 6% of federal spending. Nasa peaked at 4.5% of federal spending during the apollo missions.
Forget whether this Manhattan project will ever be profitable, the fact that they're choosing to outsource it to a competitor with 75% gross margins is just insane.
