Because a lot of comedic gags are based on two people acting attracted to the same gender. The classic pretty boy and handsome girl tropes, same gender bathhouse scenes, etc etc.

And the funny thing is that a lot of the characters in these scenes never fully write off their attraction, even if they end up with the opposite gender in the end.
