This is a good point. It's not so much a "yeah everyone is a hypocrite and excuses their side" thing, that's part of it, but the bigger part is how people generalize and market their ideas because being more forward is more risky. Like how holocaust deniers do better calling themselves free speech warriors when that's the only issue they show up for. The confederate fought for states rights. Issues are framed as being liberty related so things like campaign finance laws go out the window because bribery is free speech.
