I only got into this series last December when I played P5R for the first time. I played P3R afterwards and just finished P4G a couple weeks ago, and even being spoiled on the identity of the culprit (is it even possible to play this game unspoiled these days?) didn't take anyway away from it. It legitimately is the best gaming experience I've had so far. It's weird because I was so burned out from the Persona gameplay loop because I played 5 and 3 back to back, and when I started 4 I was kind of eh, but the setting, the atmosphere, the characters drew me in so much that I couldn't put the game down and finished it in 10 days. Other than the identity of the culprit I was unspoiled, and reaching the true ending on my own was very gratifying. It truly felt like the end of a massive journey when the guitar chorus in the final boss theme kicked in, and I'm very glad I saved P4 for last. It's my new favorite game of all time.
Anyway, from what I've read this take is relatively tired, but 3 probably does have the best story, 4 the best cast, and 5 the best visuals. Gameplay wise, just from a battle standpoint, I prefered 4, but 5's dungeon crawling is more memorable. Music is 5, but 4's highs are just as good, and Yu is the best MC.
I have not played 1 & 2 but will seek them out eventually. I just wish they had Steam ports.
