well the longer you leave it on, the more it will dry you and/or possibly make your skin irritated so be careful with that. you could also just get a BP cream. make sure your moisturizer has niacinamide (helps with acne and other stuff). you dont need to dry off before applying moisturizer. it would actually benefit you more if you apply moisturizer while your skin is damp to lock that water in
before spending a lot of money on skincare against acne, make sure your habits are in check (touching face, wash face when you sweat, do not use hot water on your face) and your diet (no slop, processed food, diary, products with significant amount of added sugar).

difference between various retinol serums/creams can boil down to formulation mostly. some are more efficient than others. anons in previous threads said they got retinol from another company and it was better than some other one so ymmv. formulation also affects detoriation of a product. there was some kind of chemist/cosmetician on youtube saying that granactive retinoid from the ordinary detoriates slower than regular retinol in squalane but not sure if it is something significant to really bother. but yes you can read about encapsulated retinol etc. i bought retinol from cerave and had good results over 3 months
