Sort of a Neoplatonist or maybe Hegelian take. I used to think evil = ignorance too but unfortunately it's one of the few things the Socratics got quite wrong.

The basic issue is that the world just doesn't actually work this way. Sure, there are people with good will who do evil thinking it's the right thing to do. And there's people with bad will who are purposefully ignorant.

But there are *also* people who do evil they know is wrong, and would rather not be doing. Romans 7:15-20 describes something that ignorance alone can't explain. When you start to fight against sin in yourself, you realize this not only lives in you, but in every human heart.
