ddHifi Surface (Moondrop collab, aka E14D) Impressions
>Build
Attractive lightweight shells with nozzle lip. On the smaller side of average for 1+4. Adequate venting, no driver flex. Easy to get immediate comfortable fit with included Kiwi Ears Flex tips. Cable is surprisingly soft, light, and well-behaved versus comparable thick cables.
>Specs
Not overly sensitive, scales well with power and volume (default 4.4mm cable is not unwarranted). Channel balance is good (I can graph, but don't feel like it at the moment).
>Bass
Above average quantity and quality. Nice sub rumble along with weighty punch. There is bloat beyond neutral, and it takes a moment to acclimate. Good texture and distinction between low frequencies.
>Mids
Initially perceived vocals as cramped and intimate because of low-end emphasis. Once acclimated, characteristics of strong layering, accurate imaging, and natural timbre remain. Moondrop specializes in mids, and they deliver despite the bloat.
>Treble
Down tilted safe treble. Avoids sharpness and eschews large peaks. Bass and upper mids are dominant at all volumes. Detail retrieval is adequate, but softened. Layering and imaging remain strong as in the mids.

>Pros
Vocals and technicalities plus bass. Moondrop rarely does bigger bass.
Bespoke-feel build, cable, and aesthetics.
On average should not present problems with fit. Good comfort and stability.
>Cons
Thicker mid bass lift results in some bloat.
Subdued treble. Will not be airy and energetic, but rather grounded and silken.
