Lol, the fansubs you put on a pedestal were littered with mistakes and a patchwork of guesses and fan-fiction.
Not that corporate subs are any better but people who don't speak Japanese talking about the quality of translations being completely ignorant how bad it all is are always hilarious but with fan-translations you really do get what you pay for and it's always so obvious the translator often couldn't understand and follow many things and just made a wild guess, especially when they clealry didn't have a transcript and didn't know a particular word and thought it was a homonym and just forced together some really awkward meaning based on the homonym that makes no sense.
Happens in official subtitles too anyway, also, mistranslations aside, no one speaks like that in modern Japan. It's like 1600s Japanese or something and no, fansubs almost never give a shit about that either.
