Malazan is just a D&D 3.5E campaign by his own admission and Song of Ice and Fire is muh alt history war of the roses shit with some light sprinkling of fantasy like Melisandre/Dragons/Old Gods that always spiral off into nothing because GRRM is too busy writing about his dwarf.
