I'm pretty sure レイム wanted that sweet, sweet 血識 less so to obtain memories he didn't already have and more just to taste the people he hates/loves so much. レイム being what he is would experience all that dread and horror that his kind feed on so parasitically directly from his obsession - much like a vampire preferring the taste of virgins.
This is yet again expanded upon in the dang U:X novels lol. And also a little in the Drama CD.

The memories of the summoners he already had were indeed just as good but only for their knowledge. They weren't good as a fine wine or anything.
