Being a landlord is real work if they actually fix shit for their tenants like plumbing or storm damage, instead of simply using their gained rent to pay off their current mortgage. A majority of renters are lazy fucks who don't even take care of basic cleaning, they tear homes apart with neglect between laziness and procrastination due to random reasons. Might be daily aches/pains that keep them from cleaning, maybe they're old as dirt and senile who knows, the fact remains that basic maintenance isn't the landlord's job. The landlord is not your keeper, your maid or your wife, they just fix major problems while you fix everything else part and parcel of living in someone else's house. A renter is basically a roommate without a roommate, no matter how you slice it the house isn't the roommate's, their name isn't on the deed so all they can do is negotiate rent cost.
