I'm half gay and I understand that, from an evolutionary standpoint, same-sex relations aren't normative and will never, and should never, be treated as equal to normal male/female couples.
I am a liberal, and I think normal gays, not faggots, should be accepted, but they should be accepted, not mistaken for the norm. Especially not to the point that the characters in the novel have no idea why the MC is freaking out when a woman comes on to her, because gays are so ubiquitous and normalized that the main heroine literally says "some people only prefer one sex, but nobody will judge you for it" as a kind of petty inversion of the real world common sense attitude toward gays.
