Day 10
I returned to Cianwood City, ready to challenge Gym Leader Chuck. Girafarig handled his Mankey easily with Psybeam, while Ampharos paralyzed Poliwrath before unleashing Thunderpunch. It was a close call—Poliwrath nearly ended the fight with Focus Punch, but it missed, and Ampharos survived to claim victory. Next, I traveled to Mahogany Town to take on Pryce. Ampharos zapped Seel with Thunderpunch, Gyarados drowned Piloswine with Surf, and Ampharos finished Dewgong with another Thunderpunch. With the power to cross whirlpools now mine, I explored the Whirlpool Islands and caught a Horsea before heading back to Olivine City for my match with Jasmine. Beautiful as she was, the battle came first. Graveler crushed both Magnemites with Earthquake, and Gyarados washed away Steelix with Surf—earning me my seventh Johto badge.
Just then, news broke: Team Rocket had seized the Radio Tower in Goldenrod. I rushed there, battling grunt after grunt until I hit Rocket fatigue. My team had been solid… until a Grunt’s Koffing used Self-Destruct, taking poor Growlithe with it. Enraged, I faced Executive Petrel again—his team stacked with Koffings and a Weezing. Girafarig took them all out swiftly with Psybeam, denying them a chance to explode. Sadly, my Ghastly fell to a Burglar’s Growlithe, and Hoothoot was taken out by a Raticate. I pressed on regardless.
Eventually, I faced Proton and Ariana once more. Ampharos downed Proton’s Golbat while Girafarig eliminated Weezing. Against Ariana, Graveler crushed Arbok, and Gyarados drowned both Vileplume and Murkrow. Finally, I confronted the mastermind—Archer. Turns out Team Rocket still dreams of Giovanni’s return. Gyarados swept Houndour and Houndoom with Surf, and Girafarig wiped out Koffing with ease. Archer fell, and with him, Team Rocket was finally driven out. I can only hope they stay gone for good.
