Let's talk about Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2.
>After Hardsuit Labs were fired for making a "fucking disaster" Sumo Digital offered to take over the project, but they pushed the project onto their subsidiary The Chinese Room because they are viewed as a kind of prestige studio. No matter what anyone tells you, TCR did not volunteer for Bloodlines 2.
>Paradox read the pitch that TCR put together, and really liked it. But they wanted the game done quickly, so set a 2 year timeline. (This is why Paradox suggested it could release in 2023. That was the original plan.)
>TCR's version recycled assets from Hardsuit's, but is essentially a completely different game.
>They did not meet the unrealistic two year timeline, but Paradox liked how the project was coming along and gave them more time to refine the vision.
>The first major gameplay footage was shown in Jan 2024, and while there was nothing specifically wrong with it, it looked kind of jank. Major systems like the open world were not functional at this time so they only showed the interior of a single warehouse.
>Game delayed from Q4 2024 to mid-2025 for rewrites and design alterations in response to community feedback. The number of endings was increased, Fabien was rewritten from a thinblood to a Malkavian, guns were reintegrated as Superhot-style temporary upgrades that could be thrown, the combat was refined with enemy counters, blood magic mechanics, etc. stuff like that.
>Game delayed from Q2 2025 to October 2025 for polish.
>PC Gamer have been given hands on, but no other outlets yet.
>Game's tone is noir, with a heavy focus on being a vampire detective/investigator/sheriff. The soundtrack is noir-oriented, but the music Rik Schaffer wrote has been recycled into the new version.
>Studio's B team have delived Still Wakes the Deep and its expansion in the meantime (it came out today), indicating that they're not completely dysfunctional.
