'Inter inquire about Hancko: Slovakian defender on Milan list'
Inter have stepped up their search for a new central defender and have ended up with Dávid Hancko. The Slovakian international is high on Inter's list and is seen as a viable alternative, now that favourite target Giovanni Leoni seems out of reach for the time being. So reports Italian pink sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday morning.
Hancko impressed in the Champions League last season and has previously been in the interest of clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Al-Nassr and Juventus. Inter recently enquired about the availability of the left-footer, who can play both centrally and on the left flank of defence. Within coach Cristian Chivu's squad, Hancko could fill the role previously held by Francesco Acerbi.
The 27-year-old defender is reportedly valued at around €30 million. That is a sum that fits within the budget Inter have made available for a new defender. At the same time, interest is also reported from Atlético Madrid and the Premier League. Feyenoord do not seem intent on cooperating with a departure without asking a fair price.
Hancko alternative to Leoni
The fact that Parma's Giovanni Leoni seems unfeasible makes interest in Hancko even more concrete. Inter previously offered €30 million for the young Italian talent, but Parma insist on an asking price of €40 million. In addition, Liverpool have also applied for Leoni, firmly fuelling the competition.
Another name circulating is that of Koni de Winter of Genoa. The Belgian defender's name came up during talks on loan for Valentin Carboni. With an expected transfer fee of €20-25 million, De Winter is also a serious option, although Hancko's name seems to be preferred.
