For me, honestly it all depends on the setting. With BG games, I am usually going for the "knight in the shining armor" archetype, because for me Forgotten Realms is a type of heroic fantasy that gels with this type of idealistic character. Even if my current BG3 character is an Eilistraee-worshipping drow EK.
But in games like Rogue Trader, Bloodlines or even Fallout? Yeah, I love playing a manipulative asshole.
