There's some newer montiors based on IPS Black variants which doubles the native contrast of vanilla IPS panels to ~2000:1

I agree that IPS has more potential since they can just throw enough MiniILEDs at it to solve bad contrast/blooming, but the poor near-black motion performance, mediocre colors, and narrow viewing angles of VA are incorrigible flaws. Ultimately I think the focus on VA panels is just a cost saving measure for monitor OEMs as they are already cheaper than IPS the issue with IPS is to make them look as good or better than VA you need high local dimming zone-counts which adds to the BOM and eventually start to encroach on entry-level OLED territory where they have no chance of competing.
