But silly name-calling aside, no you don't. Japanese is an extremely boring language when translated directly, especially when it's limited to its pop-culture common phrases.

You know the phrases and whether you know Japanese or not, you know how frequently they show up in anime and game scripts. A good localizer can add a wealth of color to what would otherwise be flat, mechanical language - language that would NOT feel as mechanical to the Japanese because they're a more subtle culture than most Western ones.
Now, mind you, when having these discussions, we're almost exclusively speaking about Japanese to English. If you don't speak English as a native language, no one actually cares what you think on this matter. You're a secondary to the discussion.
