Current story is that karel and the vulgus are dindus because the precursors of the descendants and humans did something bad to their people back in the day and they're just wanting revenge, on top of Karel wanting the iron hearts so that he can go back to his homeworld Qliphoth which being raped by colossi. Most of their planetary defense has been wiped out so their remaining leaders are urging Karel to form an alliance with humans to fight the common enemy inside the void. They seem to be hinting of a bigger threat coming.
