I know exactly what you're referring to. There are two archetypes that fall into this class - characters that gain more DPS as they lose health and characters that can switch between output and tanking via toggled transformations.
Another archetype that is related are drain tanks that gain health as they deal damage. Those are definitely one of my favorites of all time.
