I was always into assassins and brawlers when I was a kid/teen, but the older I get, the more I'm drawn to berserkers and paladins.

something similar happened to me, after years and years of playing assasins/rogues/fast melee dps classes, one day i found myself bored as i no longer cared about topping the dps charts or doing good dps so now i play tank classes, specially paladins or their edgy counterpart

There is a specific class in a certain game I play that I absolutely love. I am unsure what archetype it falls into beyond "ramp up DPS".
>Starts out in a super tanky mode
>Gradually builds up buffs while reducing its own damage reduction
>Enters a super high DPS mode that also retains all of its previous buffs
The lore behind it is also super cool

allow me to bonk decently and support and i'll be happy

weapon master. i love the idea of mastering one weapon and then this guy can master 5 at the cost of durability and upgrade costs

plus hes sweaty with all his cancels and basic combo juggles for dps in groups or bosses

i wish Project BBQ hadn't been sacrificed to create Khazan, it looked way more interesting than Project Overkill and had better designs to boot.

I know exactly what you're referring to. There are two archetypes that fall into this class - characters that gain more DPS as they lose health and characters that can switch between output and tanking via toggled transformations.
Another archetype that is related are drain tanks that gain health as they deal damage. Those are definitely one of my favorites of all time.

Drain HP characters are also my favorites, but this isn't really a "toggle between tank and DPS" class. You generally want to stay in the fragile mode because it has some of the highest DPS in the game. Moving from the DPS mode to the tank mode also does a massive nuke that depends on how many stacks of your defense decreasing buff you have on yourself.
