FASA held the Trek tabletop license and did not only an RPG but miniatures in the 1980's
They lost their license in 1989 due to constant typos and retarded writing in their literature for the time after being given a few warnings to shape up. Some of their content was used as background material and even some lore in early TNG so those pages and images you see on the computers were lifted from their material.
Losing that license probably is what put their company into a death spiral more than anything as it was an easy source of money.

Speaking of which, they really should canonize some of Starfleet Command and Klingon Academy designs. They really fit so well into the universe.
