Star Trek fans, what do we think of the Enterprise-C Concept?

It doesn't look like an evolution of the excelsior, it looks like somebody started with an image of an excelsior class and an image of a galaxy class and intentionally made what came between them, which is exactly what it is but it feels too contrived.
Still better by far than anything nu-trek ever shat out

There is something to the old ship designs. They just feel completely different. Something about the feel of the scenes of the ships just floating in space really sets the atmosphere for good Star Trek. Nu-Trek tries to sex it up too much and it just winds up feeling like an advertisement.

TMP through TNG era designs are great.
One might go as far to say, GOAT.
Nothing else looks as elegant as Star Trek ships.
Doesn't matter if it was purpose built or kitbashed for the background.

TOS era look way too much like props.
ENT suffers from prequel constraints
Don't even bring up the atrocities of JewJew's Trek.

I got into Star Trek because of the ship designs that I first saw in Armada 2, the way Romulans got presented in the tutorial sold me on checking out the actual show.
The fact that it was Lower Decks that brought back the clean TNG look says everything there is about the absolute state of the franchise.

Looks bulkier, more militaristic. Enterprise D stripped a lot of that down with the nacelles and the saucer and the body being thinner. This seems more like a destroyer, rather than sleeker design the embassy/cruise liner Enterprise D ended up being.

I like it, though. I just don't quite know if I could call it The Enterprise.

Completely understandable.
In Armada 2 I liked all 4 of the normal races, Feds, Romulans, Klingons and Carddies.
Each was unique and had a very strong theme.
There was a mod that added Breen and Dominion ships and it tried it's best to expand the roster and aesthetically I think it did well.
There were a ton of mods for the game.
FleetOps is probably what I would have wanted "futuristic" Trek ships to look like, but they completely fumbled it after JJ Trek.

Ever wonder how much a shock it would have been for a viewer of TOS going onto TNG and seeing a d'deridex for the very first time?
Romulans having ships built to rival Fed ships in size was basically unheard of yet all of a sudden they have these giants of a warship in front of them?
>>213495883
Fact was originally meant to be a Romulan ship as well but they changed it very last moment.
>>213495993
The way they were designed didn't lend themselves much to kitbashing hence lack of more designs, not even borrowing from the tabletop games despite numerous of those designs showing up in background shots of the shows. Thought they would have done more in the 3D era though?

It was a pretty major scene for someone who started with TNG, so I can see how having the context would enhance it.
D'Deridex is a top 5 starship design period, it tells a story and it is clean with no loose details.
>>213496487
I knew Star Wars was fucked when they announced Abrams after what he did to Trek.
Stuff like ship design appeals to nerds, to directors like JJ and and Johnson they are just setpieces.

Lucas really understood merchandising and even to an extent Gene which is why modern day directors and producers are so shit at their job. So much money can be made from models alone.
Speaking of which wonder why they choose to canonize some of the designs in pic related in TNG but not all?

I know FASA mostly from the copyright fiasco with Battletech/Robotech
There was an Armada 2 mod that was set around the turn of 23rd/24th century and used a bunch of these models. My understanding was that they came from the Klingon Academy game, which in turn used the Star Trek tabletop stuff.

Given how much they relied on kitbashing during TNG/DS9/VOY, they probably only adopted the stuff they could cobble together.

FASA held the Trek tabletop license and did not only an RPG but miniatures in the 1980's
They lost their license in 1989 due to constant typos and retarded writing in their literature for the time after being given a few warnings to shape up. Some of their content was used as background material and even some lore in early TNG so those pages and images you see on the computers were lifted from their material.
Losing that license probably is what put their company into a death spiral more than anything as it was an easy source of money.

>vidya ships
Speaking of which, they really should canonize some of Starfleet Command and Klingon Academy designs. They really fit so well into the universe.
