They did. The gunfights in the film are all way over the top with how accurate the heroes are. Which I'm willing to roll with a bit because it is an over the top franchise although the action has turned into more super hero fare in the last two films as opposed to the first three films.
But as I said, I'm willing to roll with Furiosa as the toughest chick in Australia. However the more girl bosses they introduce the more silly it gets.
Take Furiosa's mother.

This would have been a perfect opportunity to display a different type of female strength. If her mother wasn't some commando and she had to come up with a plan to rescue her daughter through cunning and deception and bravery instead of just rolling in and shooting everyone.
But instead we just get the exact same character as Furiosa. She's the toughest chick in Australia who no man can match. And what's worse I've seen the toughest chick in the world that no man can match character so frequently over the past decade that any novelty it might have has worn off. I've seen this story, again and again and again and yet despite all the attempts at female heroes Hollywood has cranked out over the past decade hardly any of them are actually written as women. They're just the same script you'd write for Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone; but now you've got a 120 pound woman playing the part.
Its boring and I'm glad that it finally seems to be dying off.
