Species has a specific definition. Animals that can interbreed and produce viable fertile offspring are the same species. There's a little gray area with weird edge cases, but that's life for you. Categories are never perfect.
"Kinds" have no definition at all. It's just a rhetorical ploy to attack evolution.
For example, why are a grey wolf and a chihuahua the same "kind"? Because they're much more different from each other than these two animals which look similar, but are different species.
